Leah Ruth Dinnison Porzel died on October 9, 2016 in Indianapolis, IN at the age of 98. Leah was the proud matriarch of 7 children, 22 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. She was born in 1918 in Manchester, NY and grew up in Pierce, ID. She graduated from the University of Idaho in 1939 and married in 1940.

Leah Ruth Dinnison Porzel died on October 9, 2016 in Indianapolis, IN at the age of 98. Leah was the proud matriarch of 7 children, 22 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. She was born in 1918 in Manchester, NY and grew up in Pierce, ID. She graduated from the University of Idaho in 1939 and married in 1940.

Leah was preceded in death by her husband, Francis B. Porzel, to whom she was married for 53 years; her parents, Walter and Louise Dinnison; and siblings Walter Dinnison, Jr. and Jane Fowler. Leah is survived by her children Phillip Porzel (wife Judith), Leah Louise Stephenson (deceased husband Donny), Lynne Porzel, Walter Porzel, Marie Kavanagh (husband Benny), Elaine Morin (husband Jim) and Paulette Freeman (husband Patrick) along with all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Leah was an extraordinary woman who influenced the lives of many as she balanced her love of family with a dedication to her profession, multiple organizations and public service. She worked as the administrator of Fairfax House for 15 years and served as President of the Northern VA Mental Health Association, branch President of the American Association of University Women and on the Board of Aurora House. Leah was a 75+ year member of the Tri Delta Sorority, 65+ year member of AAUW, 20+ year member of the St. James Catholic Church choir, 18 year leader of Girl Scouts of America, member of Lifetime Learners and a docent for Cherry Hill in Falls Church.

The wake will be on Monday, October 17 at Murphy's Funeral Home in Falls Church Virginia from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm and between 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm. The funeral will be at St. James Catholic Church, Falls Church, VA at 10:00 am on October 18 at 10:00 am.
